Corden Manufacturing
Gridforce Case Study
In 2007, the Corden Group decided to develop a new company, Corden Manufacturing, to produce concrete blocks. “We had planned to make a conventional external yard area of concrete” said Tony Trevethick, the Group Finance Director. But because the area was large (1.5 acres), the planning department insisted that underground tanks were installed to store excess rain water. This was going to add £300 000 to the project cost! An alternative solution had to be found.
It was then as a result of research into SUDS products that we discovered the Gridforce product which provided an instant solution to providing surface water drainage at the same time as creating a hardwearing surface for vehicles.
The installation of Gridforce grids was successfully completed in September 2007 and they proved exceptionally good to the extent that after some negotiations the Corden Group was able to buy the rights to distribute the Gridforce product in the UK and some other countries within Europe.
As the company has expanded over the last 18 months, the new factory premises were already becoming too small and the company was able to purchase an adjoining land of 1.2 acres, in February 2009. Over recent weeks this piece of land has been developed by adding about 50 cm of hardcore to provide a suitable base upon which to lay the Gridforce product. The installation has been completed by our team in April 2009 and can be seen on our industrial video on the website.
