Gridforce recently supplied 7,330m² of Gridforce GF50 ground reinforcement grids for a major car park project at Port Talbot and Margam, South Wales. Installation was carried out by Greensport Trading Ltd, delivering the ground reinforcement for two car parks and the connecting pathways.
The site required a long-lasting solution capable of supporting constant heavy vehicle movements, including plant equipment and fire tenders, while maintaining a safe, clearly defined surface suitable for daily use.
The key challenge was to create durable access roads and car parks that could withstand repeated loading from heavy vehicles without rutting, surface failure, or ongoing maintenance issues.
At the same time, the finish needed to remain clear and organised, with defined parking bays and accessible markings, with the option to blend into the surrounding environment using either grass or gravel.
Traditional hardstanding would have increased cost, disrupted drainage, and reduced flexibility.
A ground reinforcement system, suited to a grass and gravel car park, was required to provide a strong, SuDS-compliant surface.
Gridforce GF50 was selected as the ideal solution for this project. Designed specifically for heavy-duty applications, GF50 provides exceptional load distribution, making it suitable for fire access roads, service routes, and high-use car parks.
The system supports both gravel and grass finishes and is available in black or green, allowing the surface to meet both functional and aesthetic requirements.
To enhance usability and safety, demarcation blocks were incorporated to clearly mark parking bays, intermittent lines, disabled symbols, and inverted ‘T’ markings, ensuring the finished areas were easy to navigate and compliant with accessibility expectations.

Installation efficiency was a major advantage on this project. Gridforce tiles are supplied preconnected on pallets, significantly reducing on-site labour time.
The lug and slot connection system eliminates the need for pins, allowing quick, secure installation even across large areas.
The completed car parks and pathways now provide a robust and permeable surface capable of handling ongoing heavy vehicle use.
Gridforce GF50 delivered a sustainable solution that met both performance and operational requirements, demonstrating why it is a trusted choice for heavy-duty car park ground reinforcement across the UK.
